Welcome!

Welcome, dear reader, to the blog Refraint of Sanity.

As the name clearly states, things might get a bit wierd here once in a while, but fear not! For I always manage to get back on track, one day or another. Take some time here, look around. I'm sure you'll be able to find a model or two you like, and, who knows, maybe even a guide or two might sneak in here!

I hope you'll have a great time here, and if you do, don't forget to subscribe! This blog is up and coming, and soon, hopefully, it'll be filled with all kinds of goodness.

To Eat A Limping Vole

Greetings ^^

Did a small test on using some Thrakka Green mixed in with the base-wash while painting red-robes.
I don't really know what I think about the result, is there really any differance? I can't tell... >.<'

I did a mistake I do regret on it, and that was going a bit to strong with the aftershading on it's left. As youmight notice it kinda look likes there's almost a hole in it, not my intention...

You might wonder rnow, why I did this, seeing as I had already established a recipe for my reds? Well, after reading an interesting article at The Back 40k (A Little Color Theory - Part III), I felt for some reason inclined to try some of it out. Mainly, I got stuck on three-way split complements. So, zooming in on the red as the first one, I happened to land at light blue and light green for the others. So, I had to work theese in in some way. I was contemplating this for a while, and soon laid up a basic plan to work the colours in:

Progress is being made, albeit slowly...

Hello everyone ^^

I've been working a bit on the Firstborn, getting two pairs of track-units for a Chimera and a Hydra more or less done and also i'm more ro less done with making about 14-15 new bases. I was just working on them for one unit and thought I could just as well pump out some more ^^

I've been thinking about what it is i'm actually missing in this army by now, before completion, an have come up with theese things:

Update-u!

Hello everyone ^^

I've been test-painting scheme for my tanks and I think i'm quite happy with it. It's quite fitting with the Adeptus Mechanicus and the Ecclesiarcy in combination, with a nice metal base-tone and gold linings, with purity seals in multitudes. But, I will have a bit of a problem painting the tanks now...

Just yesterday my Citadel Spray Gun blew up. Yep, you read right. I had just based some test pieces in Chainmail and was just cleaning it with some water, it went *POFF!* and my bathroom was filled with propellant. I breathed in a nice few lungfulls of the stuff and felt moderatly well for a few hours, but that's not the part i'm pissed about. The fact that i've used this piece of crap 3 times with this last time is what makes me angry. I've payed quite a bit of money for it, and it breaks after three goes?!... I've taken proper care of it, cleaning it every time and not overstraining it or anything, and it just breaks?...

Thankfully i'm an Outrider so i'll get a new one without all that much work, just 2hrs really, but it's the fact that it broke so easily that's pissing me off...

Anyways, i've also started a (hopefully) final test-Firstborn. I've gotten all the baselayers and washes done with, so it's all about highlighting now.

Pictures of the tank-scheme will hopefully be up during the weekend as I aim to get it photographed at GFs house ^^

Cheers ^^

Let's try again...

Well,

had girlfriend over WITH camera this weekend and took a few cheeky photos when she was otherwise pre-occupied. Sadly, they were a bit quick and got a bit sloppy so I'm not sure it's even worth uploading, but, atleast they're not as colourdistorted ^^

I've done a small change since the last one though, in the form of making his nose and cheeks a little ruddy, to symbolise the cold environment he's going to be fighting in. Some practice will be needed, but I think it'll be able to look quite decent when done ^^

I've been doing a lot of colour tests on models, mostly on some BFSP Night Goblins, but lately, i've been needing to start testing the skin tones and some metalwork. So, as I have to build a full box of BFSP for my work until I can get the AOBR, I thought the Dwarfs would be some good subjects ;)

So, i'm hard at work on thoose for the moment so not that much to show right now, but, I thoguht i'd show you (both) the red i've decied to use for my Firstborn and my first try at glazing in colour on skin (which inspired me to try it on the Firstborn), nicely presented on a Gobbo:

I think the red shows it's best side from the back picture. Now, don't judge me to hard, this is some serious speed-painting. I think I got this model done in about 5-10min or so, just as a test. The red is quite an easy recipe and has a nice, ruddy-dirty tone to it that I think will do well.

Well, that's all for now, stay tuned for more progress on the army, and maybe a Dwarf or two ;)

Cheers ^^

Face test

Hello everyone ^^

An update from the road. Brought this model to my GF's house to show her what i've been testing, and since she has the good camera, well...

It's kindoff a bad picture though... The lighting available here is NOT the optimal ^^

But, it shows what i've tried, mostly. I've based it of a technique from a WD tutorial and tested some things with glazes. Altough it's not all to visible in this photo i've fixed his lower lip with a reder tone. What's more apparent on this one is the scaring on the left eye though. I'm quite pleased with the effect I got out for such a simple technique.
I will need a tad bit of practice on the eyes, but the black fine-point pen i'm using is working wonders. Considering investing in one of another colours so I can actually give them eyecolour to. My precision has decreased over the latest months since I haven't been painting the finer details, mostly just colour testing, but i'll soon be back to my normal level of precision ^^

Some slight progress is being made on the flamer-servitor seen in the previous post, and i'm also fiddeling a bit with a nice little conversion for a chimera ^^

For now;

Cheers! ^^

Servitor Flamer, VWIP...

Well, yes, very, very WIP...

Melta-Preacher, need some input ^^'

Hello everyone!

I've done some more work on the preacher and only have the tinyest details left. Well, except for one... And that's where i'm going to try and ask you for input. Here's where he's standing:
