Hello everyone ^^
I've been working a bit on the Firstborn, getting two pairs of track-units for a Chimera and a Hydra more or less done and also i'm more ro less done with making about 14-15 new bases. I was just working on them for one unit and thought I could just as well pump out some more ^^
I've been thinking about what it is i'm actually missing in this army by now, before completion, an have come up with theese things:
Welcome!
Welcome, dear reader, to the blog Refraint of Sanity.
As the name clearly states, things might get a bit wierd here once in a while, but fear not! For I always manage to get back on track, one day or another. Take some time here, look around. I'm sure you'll be able to find a model or two you like, and, who knows, maybe even a guide or two might sneak in here!
I hope you'll have a great time here, and if you do, don't forget to subscribe! This blog is up and coming, and soon, hopefully, it'll be filled with all kinds of goodness.

My 1k Vostroyan list
Hello everyone ^^
I thought i'd share with you what I aim to have built and finished as the first part of my army. It's been a balance between effectiveness and fluff that got this going, and in the end, I think it'll fair quite well. So, without further delay, here it is:

Tank Scheme
Hello everyone ^^

I've dissed the old tank scheme I was using, quite simply because I didn't really like it all that much :P
I've instead opted for this scheme, which is a bit more fiting for their co-operation with the Adeptus Mechanicus. I'm quite pleased with this as a test piece, alough the real deal will have less driplets from it, seeing as I went a bit overboard on this one, mostly just to get the feel for making them ^^'
Some runnings should also be added to the gold in the real version, but, that'll show then ^^
Well, back to my weekend with my GF, have a good one everyone! ^^
Cheers ^^

Melta-Preacher, need some input ^^'

Progress! ^^
Well hello everyone,
some progress have been made today!
I've been working on a pair of convertions for my army ^^
I've been needing another Melta-model, so, I realised I didn't have any religious special weapons user so... I thought i'd convert one ^^
The base is the Games Workshop Preacher model (http://www.games-workshop.com/gws/catalog/productDetail.jsp?catId=cat1300107&prodId=prod1140076). Pictures of this guy will be up as soon as you'll be able to see the progress ^^
But, on my second convertion. I've been in dire need of some variety in my units, because I HATE having many models looking exactly the same. So, I was looking at my Vostroyan Commander model andn realised he had quite the nifty bionic foot. It didn't seem like the hardest thing to convert so I started working on one. The progress so far can be seen on this pic here:

The parts i've used for this guy are quite interesting actually ^^
The base of the leg is created by the use of a Heavy Stubber and the Com-central from the Tank Acessory frame, and the claws from obvious plasticard. I still need to add some rivets and create a couple of pistons, but the base is more or less complete ^^
To finish it up, here's a sneak peek at the melta-convertion:

So, until later, cheers ^^

Meltagunner- WIP
Well, as most of you Vostroyan players out there know, us Vostroyan commanders run into a bit of a problem when it comes to one weapon, the Meltagun. We actually don't have a model that wields this terribly effective weapon, so we are all but forced to create our own. Now, i've created my first one out of a Grenade-launcher model, and it's quite decent. It looks like a sort of one-maybe-two-shot deal of a weapon, but as we all know, this is often as much as some of our dear Veterans get off before dying anyways ^^
Now, the second one i've made is the most obvious, being the Flamer model. Simply just cutting of the flamer front part and replacing it with a melta-tip, we have a nice looking meltagunner quite quickly.
But, as I strive not to have any models looking all to much alike in my army (which will pose a problem seeing as my first 1k list have 46 models in it >.<') I had to figure out a way to create some more meltagunners. Firstly, I started looking into INQ models, and found myself at least one. Namely the "Flamer-armed Henchman" in the Witch Hunter Inquisitor set. But, I need a total of 6 Meltas in my 1k list, so we need three more after this. Well, the fourth was quite simple, i'm simply going to buil a war-worn Veteran Cadian, representing one of the survivors of the previous campaign to the planet. (My Vostroyans are sort of a first resort unit when something terrible has been discovered, like a daemon artifact or such. And therefore come in after the initial landings). Then we have two left... I was thinking of making another one a Cadian, but, really, I think it'd be to much. We ARE the proud Firstborn, no?
So, as you see above, my fifth one is on it's way. I've simply taken a standard Firstborn, cut of the front part of the gun and the ammo and finally removed a thing at the back. Then I made a small container out of plasticard tubing and then attached a guitar wire from the gun to the tank. Laso I made some kinf of metal rimming on the front, to make it look a bit more sturdy and propper ^^. Once again, it looks a bit like a "one-or-two-shot" kinda gun, but as previously stated, can we hope for much more when we jump out infront of a Land Raider? ;)
I still need to attach some rivets, and get a meltatip, but it's well on it's way ^^
Pictures of the others will be up on a later account ^^
Cheers ^^

Tank
I'm not really quite happy with it...
The colour i'm not 100% sure matches the Vostroyan theme, and the drybrushing, well, i'm not sure it's the proper way to paint a tank, really :/
I've been thinking about trying airbrushing a layer of Kommando Khaki + Skull White, 1:1, and basing it in that, and after that simply washing it in and just giving it a quick re-highlight (with drybrushing, ofc, but not in the same amount) and then adding weathering. Maybe getting a copy of the Imperial Armour Tank painting book would be clever, altough it'd cost me half my monthly study funds :P. No such luck as getting to spend my Outrider money on Forge World yet ^^'
The tank ofc isn't done. The last parchments need writing, the wax needs to be fixed, the red get a final coat and then dirt and weathering is supposed to be added ^^
But, i've been thinking about doing something simillar to SandWyrm (http://theback40k.blogspot.com/2009/08/youve-got-purdy-little-glacius.html). In this case i'd be basing it in the KK + SW base to, giving it some dirt, dipping it and then re-highlighting. But, i'm not to sure about this... It might prove to be to light of a result :/
I love a nice dark finish to my army, so that's how I do my Firstborn. But, if I did like this with the tanks, they migt get all to bright and then just stick out like a sore thumb...
I also want the parchments on them to have a proper "pop" to them, meaning that it once again can't be to bright.
Does anyone have any colour suggestions? ^^'
(The painting used on it now is the same as on GW's "Chimera Assembly and Painting" guide)
Cheers everyone ^^

Gloria Imperator, the Firstborn are running!
There they are, just look at them sprint! ^^
I'm quite pleased with this new way i've found to make bases. I find that it really produces a nice ruined city feel, perfect for my armys background. I've been thinking about maybe throwing up a guide on how I make the bases, including the way to make some nice pieces of concrete (and reinforced concrete) and some bricks. But, we'll see if anyone is interested ^^
I've also included a shot of the conversions made to theese guys, in the form of custom made purity seals and a moustache added to one of them (Why the hell is a Vostroyan Firtborn moustache-less?! O.o).
They've just been sprayed now, so their painting lies ahead!
Altough I think i'll first of all convert the three Meltagunners and priest (modelling reasons only, not the actual priest with tules and all :P) needed for this unit, making them suitably holy and capable of delivering the roaring Flame of Retribution! ^^
I'll be uploading some pictures of my WIP Leman Russ Battle Tank later tonight. I've not been working on it for a while, seeing as i'm not quite certain about it's colour matching the scheme with my normal Vossies :/. But, hopefully you might be able to give me some thoughts! :D
Now, cheers everyone! ^^

Gloria Imperator, ehm, one Firstborn stands! ^^'
Yeah, well, it's a start at least ^^'
This si a test mini I made simply to test if I could find some quick ways of making a Firstborn, and the techniques used on this one work quite nicely and quickly ^^
I wouldn't say it's my best work, but it's not all to shabby for a standard trooper. Some speed painting mistakes can be found on it, for instance some gold that sneaked into the creavice between the scope and the stock of the rifle. Something interesting is the way the burnt brown on the purity seal on his back looks like gold ^^
Work on the tank is being done, but thoose damn purity seals are giving me problems... :/
Well, work is progressing, and if lucky, it'll be up here tonight ^^
Cheers ^^

One step back
Well, here's some pictures of the LRBT, before i've started the painting process.
Took me a while to figure out how you could get flat and smooth gs for the parchments. But, some vaseline and a plastic bag and by the gods it worked ^^
Altough the one on the right of the front weapon housing became all to thick and not enough movement in it... But, you live and you learn.
It's probably hard to notice on this picture, but on the left track guard, i've actually created a mold to make big skull wax-things to hold the purity seals in place ^^
Work is being done to create a smaller variant.
Also, the thing at the back was supposed to become some kind of engine, with two huge pipes coming out of either side of it. But, I didn't like the look of it.
So, it turned into somekind of after-processor, which, interestingly enough, seems to negate all kinds of exhaust fumes. This then makes my Vostroyans... Enviromentally friendly?... ^^'
Sure, whatev, looks quite ok at least ^^
Well, girlfriend missed a few trains and is coming a lot later. So pictures of the painted thing might be delayed 'til tomorrow ^^
'Til then, have good one and don't bite the caribou!
Cheers ^^
