Welcome!

Welcome, dear reader, to the blog Refraint of Sanity.

As the name clearly states, things might get a bit wierd here once in a while, but fear not! For I always manage to get back on track, one day or another. Take some time here, look around. I'm sure you'll be able to find a model or two you like, and, who knows, maybe even a guide or two might sneak in here!

I hope you'll have a great time here, and if you do, don't forget to subscribe! This blog is up and coming, and soon, hopefully, it'll be filled with all kinds of goodness.

Oh, Thy Nasty Hearthenlough!

I've been playing around with some grey spray lately, some kind of strange brand meant to paint cars with, but as I reas on it it DID say "...also works for hobby use". Well, does it? You can bet on it! It's about half the price of GW spray and it contains an extra 100ml to boot! ^^
So, I've been learning to use this new basecoat lately, and as far as I've noticed, I need a pre-wash before I start painting :P
So, before I start painting my models, I always give them a nice big wash of Chaos Black. I'll go through a model step-by-step in the future ^^

On other news, I've been playing around with many kinds of different "Odd and Nasty"-builds some armies can make. So, as a part of a small series here, I'm going to start with the Space Wolves and the list I like to call the "Howling Wind".

Now, I can of course see the obvious drawback of this list: It CAN'T holt objectives. At all.
But what makes up for this lack is something quite interesting really:

Every Wolf Lord has S10 and a 3+ Inv save and a meatshield of 9-12 Fenrisian Wolves to soak up ranged wounds. Where this army truly shines is against thoose that relly upon ranged weapons to do the damage, like IG. This list is fast, really. Every unit has a 18" + d6" Assault range, which means that you'll get 1-3 rounds of shooting of against them. Now, unless you're packing an actual arsenal of S10 weaponry, the Wolf Lords will reach you. Against Mechanized, once they hit your lines, it's going to break. And Infantry, well, you will have to be damn lucky to beat the wolves really.

Two of the HQ's are specifically made to chomp through RaF, namely Canis and the Warrior Born. Canis will have a field day against any Ork army out there, and also IG and at times other Space Wolves. While the Warrior Born will be racking up kills against anything really. I've been pondering if somethign else would be more suitable for him, but the Thunder Hammer makes him really versitile, able to kill anything from a Tank to a Grot quite quickly.

Then we have the Bear. This is the one that will munch through Walkers and MC's. Being an Eternal Warrior means that S10 is just as scary as S7, effectively turning Demolisher shells into Autocannons and Dreadnaughts into... is there anything normally S7 in CC out there...? Anyways. As many of his brethren, the Thunder Hammer will work wonders against just about anything. Lastly, there's Beastslayer. He's the one that will be specifically going after your CC-char or MC, and he'll be doing a damn good job disposing of them.

As you migt have guessed, the Fenrisian Wolves are shields, and in case they survive, quite decent in CC really with 3 S4 and I5 attacks each.

Now, we've been discussing this army and come up to the fact that neither of our army's would have any chance against this in a KP game, and not that big of a chance in Objectives either. In KP we really just find that it would be hard for perhaps my IG to take care of thoose Lords, their 3+ Inv save makes it a bit scary to just "try and blast them with the Demolisher" and also to "pop out of transport to 7-Melta him" seeing as he would probably survive and then be able to Assault. Objectives is where we might have the chance, me by simply flying around some Veterans in my Vendetta and keep out of trouble and my friend by zooming around Plague Marines in a Rhino (a bit more risky).

We did find one semi-efficient way to handle this list though. Simply by not shooting them. Yep, that's right, don't shoot. Don't shoot them and then engage them in CC. That's right, where they are their strongest. "Why?", you might ask. Well, the answer is simple:

Combat Resolution. Kill thoose Fenrisian Wolves! If he still has the character attached to the unit, you can rack up some wounds against the Fenrisian Wolves and then make him take a nasty Morale check. The problem with this though: you either need something hard, or something fast, meaning either good saves and high T or something with a higher Initiative than the Wolves. And we came to the best solution: Daemon Princes with Mark of Nurgle. Yup, theese guys won't go down so quickly and will strike simultaneusly with the Wolves. Statistically, while kitting the DPs out with Warptime (ofc) you'd win by around 4-6. This would lead to the Wolf Lord taking a Morale check on a Ld6 or Ld4.

Another contender for being able to take some out are the Fiends of Slaanesh, the Bloodthirster and the Keeper of Secrets. All high Initiative models on the charge and with tons of attacks to do some damage. Altough, the Fiends and the Keeper can have some problems due to their low saves against the flurry of attacks that will greet them.

Anyways, that was the first in the series. It's a cheap list to build and could be good for a laugh or two.

Cheers everyone, now i'm back to painting me Vossies ^^
